Aviation 1 Class
Course Overview
This course focuses on exposure to careers in Aviation and Aerospace, and helps students decide if Aviation is the career field for them. The world of aviation is an innovative and exciting field of study that continues to develop exponentially. Current reports show that there is a massive shortage for qualified aviation and aerospace professionals. The world needs more pilots, mechanics, engineers, air traffic controllers, dispatchers, UAV pilots, and more.
In this course we also begin the required training to prepare students to take the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Private Pilot Knowledge exam or FAA Remote Pilot Knowledge exam. Students also have the opportunity to take a discovery flight in a real aircraft, fly our flight simulators in a variety of training scenarios, attend industry field trips, and hear from a variety of guest speakers.

High School Credit
This course meets the College Preparatory Elective “G” requirement for the University of California (UC) and California State University (CSU) system.
Career Technical Education
This course meets the Career Technical Education (CTE) Transportation – Operations requirement for the University of California (UC) and California State University (CSU) system. Aviation I is SJVA’s CTE Concentration course for the Aviation Pathway.
FAA Approved Training Device
Students in Aviation 1 are provided training in Precision Flight Control’s CRX MAX Advanced Aviation Training Device. Students can credit 2.5 hours of their time in the training device with a flight instructor towards earning their Private Pilot Certificate.
