SJVA Band

San Jacinto Valley Academy is committed to offering our students a diverse and well-rounded educational experience. One of those facets to that learning experience is our instrumental music program.  Starting at 5th grade, students can join the band program and begin to learn the fundamentals of playing an instrument.  As students progress through the band program they will have the opportunity to join our Concert Band, Symphonic Band, and Jazz ensemble. SJVA’s band program competes in annual festivals, plays at community events, and goes on tours.  Please feel free to reach out to Mr. Newkirk if you have any questions about the Band program or would like to enroll your child in one of our ensembles. 

 

6th Grade Concert Band:

This ensemble is offered as a class in which students will get instruction and rehearsal time every school day. In this ensemble students are introduced to musical concepts and will learn to play as a group. Members of this ensemble can expect to play 3 to 4 concerts a year.

 

7th-8th Grade Concert Band:

7th-8th Grade Concert Band is offered as a class that meets during the school day.  In this group, students work on honing their musical abilities and elevating their concepts of playing in an ensemble.  Students in this ensemble perform multiple times a year at seasonal concerts, festivals, and graduations.

 

High School Symphonic Band:

The Symphonic Band is one of the premier instrumental groups at SJVA.  In the beginning of the year the Symphonic band functions as a marching ensemble playing at sporting events and marching in parades.  Around November, the ensemble shifts gears and begins to concentrate on concert repertoire in preparation for the festival season. Symphonic band has won numerous awards at festivals over past years and regularly goes on tour. Students in this ensemble can expect to play multiple times a month.

 

Jazz Ensemble:

SJVA’s Jazz Ensemble is a class offered to High School students. Students in this ensemble learn jazz theory, how to play all their scales, and how to play in a jazz ensemble.  In this group we play all kinds of music from swing band music to modern day compositions.  Students that wish to join this ensemble must have approval from Mr. Newkirk to join.  This is another instrumental ensemble that performs frequently.
