San Jacinto Valley Academy - School Advisory Committee

The School Advisory Committee will act as a clearinghouse for ideas on the development and evaluation of programs at SJVA. SJVA’s Board of Directors and Administration may ask the Committee to review, discus, and evaluate items related to the following area: 

• SJVA’s Local Control and Accountability Plan
• Program Expansion
• Program Evaluation
• Technology
• Educational Enrichment Opportunities
• Field Trips
• School Advocacy.

These areas of interest have been identified, but other topics may be introduced at the discretions of the Board of Directors, President, and Vice President. 

Composition and Election

There shall be five parents (5), three (3) teachers, three (3) students, President, Vice President, and/or designee. Any Board of Directors assigned to the Committee are at the options of the Board of Directors Chairman.

Parent Selection Process

• Parents cannot be current Parent Advisory Committee members
• Staff, in October, will nominate ten (10) parents that they think can best represent parents in the Academy.
• Ten (10) names will be presented to SJVA parents to vote for five (5) members to serve on the Committee.  
• The five (5) elected parents will be seated on the Committee for a one school year term. 

Teacher Selection Process

• SJVA staff will nominate teachers from elementary, middle, and high school that would best represent teachers on the Committee. 
• The three (3) teachers will then be elected to serve on the Committee for a one school year term.  

Student Representations 

• The three students that will serve on the Committee consist of the Student Council Presidents for the Senior, Junior, and Sophomore class.
• If a Class President is unable to serve on the Committee another students from the Student Council will fill that position.

• The School Advisory Committee will hold a meeting once a month in the following months:
  • November 28th - 5:00-6:00pm in room 38 
  • December 19th - 5:00-6:00pm in room 38 (Cancelled)
  • January 23th - 5:00-6:00pm in room 38
  • February 21th - 5:00-6:00pm in room 38
  • March 20th - 5:00-6:00pm in room 38
  • April 17th - 5:00-6:00pm in room 38
  • May 15th - 5:00-6:00pm in room 38

School Advisory Committee with the Organization

School Advisory Committee is under the President and/or Vice President’s oversight but the committee has no operational authority concerning the daily activities of the Academy or its employees. It is imperative that this group be a resource to SJVA’s Board of Directors, Administration, and School Leadership Team. If relational problems developed the President and/or Vice President can request that the Board of Directors remove the individual or groups of individuals causing a disturbance. Upon removal, SJVA’s President and/or Vice President can appoint parents and/or teachers to fill the unexpired term of those removed.
