Elizabeth Mendez
My name is Elizabeth Mendez. I am a junior at SJVA and this year in my creative writing class I have discovered a new love for poetry. I have been able to express my emotions and thoughts into beautiful pieces of art.
Flowers, oh flowers, so lovely and fair
With colors and scents beyond compare
In gardens and fields, they blook and sway
Bringing beauty and joy to every day
Roses and lilies, daises and more
Each one unique with a story in store
Some are delicate, others are bold
But all are treasures to behold
In spring they burst forth a riot of hues
In summer they thrive with petals so smooth
In autumn they fade but leave us a trace
Of memories and dreams of love and of grace
II.
Haiku
Softly falls the night
As I lay my head to rest
Dreams dance in my mind
III.
As daylight fades and shadows start to creep
The world grows quiet and all around me sleeps
The stars come out a twinkling lullaby
And in my bed, I close my weary eyes
A gentle peace descends upon my soul
As every muscle softens every thought grows dull
The cares and worries of the day subside
And in their place, sweet dreams begin to rise
In sleep, I find a refuge from the world
A secret place where all my fears unfurl
I wander through a landscape of my mind
And leave the walking world far behind
So let me rest, and let my spirt soar
In this enchanted realm, forever
IV.
Books pencils and pens
Learning new things everyday
School is where I grow
V.
The rain falls softly, tapping at my window
A soothing lullaby that eases my mind
I watch the droplets dance and twirl
As they race each other down the glass
The world outside grows hazy and dim
As the rain turns everything to mist
The colors fade the sounds grow muffled
And all is quiet save for the patter of rain
But in the stillness a new world emerges
A world of secrets of hidden wonders
The rain washes away the dust and grime
And reveals the beauty that lies beneath
VI.
Spring
And the spring season begins again.
And the flowers awake, and so does the sun.
my spirits soar, as do the robins and
Bluejays, spirits return along with the rain in
April and may, so spring begins again
Never here to stay
VII.
Dear winter,
I'm breaking up with you
It’s time I start seeing new seasons.
Like spring
Spring gives me flowers
Spring caresses my skin with sunlight and warmth
Spring sings me songs by the birds
Spring adds color to my world
Spring makes me want to get out of hibernation
Filling me up with emotions of aliveness and bliss
Spring has its way of awakening beautiful feelings
That were shadowed by you
I will not miss you winter
VIII.
Sometimes I think about breaking the contact
Wondering what could go wrong
But honestly,
What would go right?
I don´t even know what I would say
Or how I would feel
Would you even respond
I know If I did it
I would be shaking from the adrenaline
Maybe you would be too
IX.
I saw something today
It was the sweetest thing
It reminded me of you
I thought about sending it to you
But I remembered,
It's not like that anymore
We aren't in love
You’re just another person now
X.
I saw you in the hall today
And you saw me
We made eye contact for a split second
Then we both put our heads down
And we walked past each other
Like everything meant nothing
Every conservation
Every laugh
Every phone call
It was all nothing
Cause in the end
All we are now is strangers
