Maya Lee
My name is Maya Lee, and I’m currently a sophomore at SJVA. I love traveling and learning about the world, and after graduation, I plan to study international relations or political science. For as long as I can remember, I’ve always loved reading and writing. Some of my favorite genres are literary fiction, historical fiction, and biographies. I love reading because it’s an escape from the craziness of our world, and it can do everything from transporting you across the world to exposing you to someone’s thoughts and experiences.
There’s no place like home
Three thousand miles far today
Where life is very good
Paper chain on wall
Curls around in a circle
Yellow, blue, and pink
We do need coffee
The silence is very loud
So can the phone ring
East Coast colleges and West Coast dive bars
Similar and yet not alike at all
Deep down, we all want to be superstars
So we’re always willing to take the fall
We always seem to want more out of life
And we’re not wrong for that, life is too short
But life in your hometown cuts like a knife
So leaving the place is the best resort
In the kitchen, there’s heights marked in pencil
I think it will seem empty once I’m gone
With nothing there but spoons and utensils
And everyone I’ve ever known withdrawn
It may not be easy to leave the nest
But sometimes, leaving is all for the best
Lovely to be with you here in the rain
Our good coats got soaked so we ran inside
Autumn in upstate New York always came
And if I wasn’t yours I would have died
We danced in the kitchen and sang till dawn
Laughed and talked endlessly of bigger things
When reality comes, will you be gone?
Or will you stay and patch my broken wings?
In summer we flew over the ocean
For how long wasn’t something decided
Your face lit up as we chased a notion
Then I knew that our worlds had collided
Life is a dream now and I never knew
That someone was waiting, someone like you
