The Theater pathway at SJVA has many wonderful choices for both the budding and the experienced actor.  The classes and rehearsals opportunities include Drama One, Drama Two, IB Theater Year One, IB Theater Year Two, The international Thespian Society, The Wolf Pack Report, Rehearsal and Performance, and even a creative writing class.

Drama One 

This course is a survey of the theatrical world.  Meant to introduce students to the basics of the stage, students will study monologues, dialogues, script writing, improvisation, movement, diction, theater history and much more. 

This course is designed to ease students gently into the program, helping them overcome stage fright, perform in groups, and give their creative side a viable outlet. 

Drama Two

This course is designed for the more serious actor who wishes to continue in their theatrical journey. The skills from Drama One will be utilized as students take the stage with other advanced actors as their theatrical skills are further sharpened. In this class, students will learn various career opportunities in theater and will have the opportunity to perform in front of live audiences. Completion of both Drama One and Drama Two will greatly prepare students for IB Theater their junior and senior years. 

IB Theater Years One and Two 

During this two-year course, students will be exposed to theatrical culture from around the world and learn about a variety of theater theorists. They will participate in a research project, a solo project, a collaborative project, and will complete a Director’s Notebook. They will also have the opportunity to attend many theatrical productions throughout the year. In addition, the IB Theater class takes a dedicated group of students to New York every year to attend Broadway productions and take master classes from working professionals. The IB Theater course is a rigorous exploration of the world of theatrics and will challenge even the top students. 

The International Thespian Society

The International Thespian Society is available to any students interested in acting regardless of their skill level. It is a society which brings actors and theater technicians together for social purposes as well as educational growth. Students will have the opportunity to attend productions together, volunteer at various community theaters, and work together on their own productions. In addition, the Thespian Society website provides students with a wealth of resources, including scholarship opportunities, contests, tutorials, and much more. This group currently meets once a week during lunch. 

The Wolf Pack Report

The Wolf Pack Report is San Jacinto Valley Academy’s news program, made up of student broadcasters. Students will have opportunities to learn journalistic skills both on screen and behind the camera. The Wolf Pack Report is a fast-paced project that is in production several times a week after school. Students who wish to work behind the scenes will have the opportunity to learn lighting, camera skills, and operate the boom microphone. 

Rehearsal and Performance 

Several times a year, SJVA puts on either a play or a musical which rehearse after school. Students work with a production team to put their production together and perform in front of the community.
